When it comes to planning your wedding day, there are so many decisions to make. Which flowers? What venue? How will it all come together? But your wedding should be a representation of the two of you and the love you share. A great way of creating a wedding vision that represents you both is to pick an overall theme that relates to the two of you. By picking one theme, whether its movies, superheroes or a winter wonderland, you can share a mutual passion with your guests and show a collaboration of your love.
Our hitched.com.au real wedding couples can do themed weddings like no other, so to help inspire you we’ve picked five of our favourites, not only from Australia but from all over the world!
Amanda was never going to be a conventional bride. As her choice of a black wedding dress worked so well with David’s all-time favourite film, it inspired her to take her wedding in an even more creative direction! With red and black as their main colour scheme, the Nightmare Before Christmas fans added some Jack and Sally touches to create an amazing movie theme for their wedding! Guests received delicious edible favours sporting ‘Eat Me Drink Me’ tags from Alice in Wonderland, a Tim Burton film, the same director as Nightmare before Christmas.
Despite both residing in Australia, Beth and Simon decided to get married in Dorset, England — the home of Simon’s late grandfather. Asking 30 guests to fly across the world to be there for the special day was such a big part of the wedding; it took on a theme of its own. Travelling plans made for wonderful décor inspirations, starting with cleverly detailed invitations that looked like boarding passes and even extending to a suitcase wedding cake. Everything worked with a red, white and blue colour scheme as these colours appear in both the flags of the UK and Australia, combining both of these special places in their travel themed wedding.
They say Paris is the city of love, so what could be a more romantic theme for Monique and Craig’s wedding than just that? Romantic red took centre stage with Monique holding a shimmering bouquet of classic rouge roses, the same flower which decorated the red velvet wedding cake. The pair decorated their venue at Lake De La Vie with ‘From Paris With Love’ décor and plenty of Eiffel tower statues, resulting in the perfect Paris wedding theme.
Claire and Paul wanted a fun, quirky and colourful celebration and by honouring the coastal town where they met, they certainly ticked all of those boxes with a nautical themed wedding. Initially the idea came from their favourite colours, yellow and blue, which had a seaside feel to them and inspired the rest of the day. The couple included cute details like retro sweets in bucket and spade props and seaside rock as part of a favour goodie bag.
As huge Disney fans, Kerri and Luke chose their favourite characters to join them in their wedding day celebrations after being inspired by a trip to Disney World. Kerri looked gorgeous in long lacy sleeves and complimented her bridal look with a fishtail plait and Pascal headband from Tangled. Disney touches appeared throughout the day, from the Mickey Mouse jewellery worn by bridesmaids, to Kerri’s vintage Minnie Mouse wedding shoes. The happy couple thought of everything from place names to confetti and created a fairy tale Disney themed wedding day that even Walt would be proud of!
