It’s commonly said that a bride shouldn’t focus so much on fashion trends when choosing her wedding dress, and instead focus on what she knows will suit her body shape. This is pretty sound advice, but here at hitched we believe there’s a way to be on trend and looking amazing! We’ve picked out current dress trends and highlighted their flattering features...

Mermaid
A mermaid style dress cinches in the waist, and the flared hemline balances out larger hips. This on trend style of wedding dress is everywhere at the moment, and works best for those with an hour glass figure or with larger hips.
Detailed Back
Wedding dresses with back detail are huge at the moment. Your guests will spend a considerable amount of time looking at your back during the ceremony, so you may as well dress it up. Keyhole backs, low backs or dresses with lots of back detail work well if you have a toned back. If you have a small bust they’re also good as they often feature a high front, and require the wearer to go bra-less!
Pleated
Pleated or ruched detailing is on so many wedding gowns at the moment. Pleating is a style saviour as it skims any lumps or bumps and has a flattering effect. Horizontal pleats can make a waist look smaller, whilst diagonal pleats can draw the eye away from problem areas.
Peplums
One of the biggest wedding dress trends of the moment is the peplum. Peplums are great for adding definition to a waist and skimming over hips in an interesting way. Consider a peplum if you’re pear-shaped and have always wanted a figure skimming gown!
Satin
Satin and other similar, heavy fabrics are making a comeback right now, inspired by so many vintage trends. Whilst you might not consider satin over lighter fabrics such as chiffon or tulle, it does have its benefits! Satin falls just right, and won’t cling to curves. It’s perfect if you’re conscious of any lumps and bumps.
Embellished Waist
If you have a neat waist and want to show it off, consider the current trend for an embellished waist on a wedding dress. Many gowns come with a sparkly belt, or you can buy one separately to add detail.
Lots of Detail
So many new season dresses are covered in lots of fabulous fabric detail, such as ruffles and floral shapes. This detail helps to elongate the body, and well...just looks amazing. You only wear a wedding dress once, why not go all out?
