The newlyweds met 13 years ago, when they both worked together. They started out as friends, before it slowly grew into something more. Marnie began to gradually move herself into Simon’s house, and by the time the couple said ‘I do’, they’d been together for around eight years!
Simon had always told Marnie he’d never propose on a birthday or at Christmas as it was too obvious. This double bluff meant his Christmas day proposal in 2011 was a total surprise to Marnie. She assumed the small box under the tree was earrings, but it was a proposal ring! Simon knows Marnie well, so he knew she’d want to choose her engagement ring. Their dog Matilda was a witness to the whole thing.
Marnie immediately printed out and framed pictures to give to her brother and sister to ask if they’d be her bridesmaid and bridesman, a Christmas present that doubled as a wedding announcement!
