After almost a decade of dating, Simon decided to take their relationship to the next level. He proposed to Beth as they at sushi at Koko in Melbourne, where they were visiting for the Australian Open.
As Beth was born with her two middle fingers joined together, the proposal didn’t include a ring. Instead, after tapping her hand to get her attention, Simon gave his future bride a gorgeous pair of earrings. She responded by saying “Well, say it!” And he asked her to marry him.
They later got a special ring made to fit Beth’s fingers using an identical pair of the earrings Simon had used in his proposal. A 14 month engagement followed, during which the couple planned a wedding in Dorset, England. They chose Dorset as it was the home of Simon’s beloved 94 year grandfather, who sadly passed away just months before the wedding.
