Why you need them and what they can do
You don’t just pick your bridesmaids to stand next to you and look pretty. They have duties and roles to help you, as the bride, when planning and preparing for your wedding. It’s best to consider certain qualities when picking your bridesmaids, and assigning them roles based on their skills.
Every bride needs a made with good organizational skills to help will the more complicated aspects of wedding planning, just as they need a maid who knows how to party in style to plan the hen do. Consider having a creative bridesmaid to help make and write invites and place cards, and a sensible and rational girl to help with any family dilemmas and stressful moments.
You can have as many bridesmaids as you need and can afford, and you don’t have to have a ‘chief bridesmaid’ or ‘maid of honor’ if you love all your girls equally. You can assign them readings during your ceremony, if there’s something special you’d like to have read out.
Don’t feel nervous about asking for help from your bridesmaids. It’s part of the job; they are there to assist you throughout the whole wedding planning process. If any one does refuse to help, gently remind them that it’s an honor to be asked as bridesmaid and that the role does involve helping you when you need it.
Finally, it’s a nice idea to reward your bridesmaids with a gift to thank them for their help and for participating in your big day. You could buy them personal gifts, such as their favorite perfume or chocolates, or give them all a matching necklace to wear on the big day and keep forever. It’s nice to accompany these gifts with a small card or handwritten note to thank them for their help and for being involved in your wedding from the start.
