Getting Married in Switzerland

If you're looking for a really romantic European destination to get married then why not consider a winter wedding in Switzerland. Just imagine how romantic a ski wedding could be, or a castle and lake wedding with the snow covered slopes in the background. There's a wide choice of chapels, and churches, or hotels and even castles in which to exchange your vows which all make weddings abroad in Switzerland in the wintertime truly magical. With plenty of places to visit and activities to do, a Switzerland is also the perfect honeymoon destination too.

Marriage Requirements

Switzerland only recognises civil ceremonies to be legally binding but it is possible to follow this with a religious ceremony of your choice. The documents that both of the couple will need included photo ID, such as a driver's licence or passport, birth certificates, a sworn affidavit of marital status and a completed marriage form. It can take around 5 weeks for approval to be given and the banns to be published. After this the wedding must take place after 10 days and within 3 months of the approval having been granted.
