Getting Married in Slovenia

If you're looking for a European destination at which to get married then why not consider Slovenia. Located in Central Europe it's a country full of interesting history, culture and some pretty spectacular scenery. If you fancy a fairytale winter wedding, then the snow covered Alps would provide a wonderful backdrop. The magic and mystery of the tiny churches around Lake Bled are also very romantic or perhaps a castle perched on the top of a cliff appeals to you. Whatever type of wedding you are considering, weddings abroad in Slovenia can suit the most discerning of couples.

Marriage Requirements

Only civil ceremonies are legally binding in Slovenia but a couple can also have a religious ceremony or blessing after this has taken place. Couples wishing to marry need to register their marriage with the registry office in the area where they want to get married. Documents needed include passports, full birth certificates, and a certificate of non impediment which they can get from their country's embassy. All documents needs to be translated into Slovene and notarised. Both parties need to attend the registry to settle on a date. Once the ceremony has been performed the marriage certificate will be issued. For more information visit http://www.slovenia.si/en/live-and-work/useful/getting-married/
