Getting Married in Jamaica

Jamaica is a tropical island in the Caribbean Sea with a stunning diversity of beaches, mountains and clear blue waters. If you've been considering weddings abroad, then Jamaica could give you the unforgettable day of your dreams. Home of the great reggae king, Bob Marley, Jamaica is a warm and vibrant island with a mixture of cultures that can be seen in the range of  fabulous settings in which you can get married and hold your reception. Whether you prefer a church or an old plantation house, the rainforest or a botanical garden, Jamaica has it all.

Marriage Requirements

It's relatively easy to get married in Jamaica and you need to start by obtaining a Licence Form and a Form of Declaration from the Ministry of Justice. Take the licence form to the Stamp Duty and Transfer Tax Department and pay JM$4,000. The Form of Declaration is proof of your marital status and needs to be signed by a Justice of the Peace. Once this is done return all the documents to the Ministry of Justice. Other documents you will need include a birth certificate sowing your father's name and a letter of parental consent if under 18. Also if you have been married before or are a widow, you'll have to provide documentation to this effect too. The Licence only takes about 3 hours to be processed and is valid for 3 months.
