Marriage Requirements

Getting married in Egypt can be a little complicated and you should allow up to 6 days for all of your paperwork to be finalised. A couple need to swear their marital status both in English and in Arabic and this can be done by visiting the Australian Embassy in Cairo and taking with valid 10 year passports and birth certificates with them. This affidavit will then need to be presented to the Egyptian Ministry of Affairs in order to be certified. Once this has taken place the legalised affidavit can be taken to the Ministry of Justice where a civil ceremony can be performed. The affidavit is valid for 1 month from issue. Two witnesses are also required to be present at the ceremony and a translator may be needed since the ceremony is in Arabic.
