Getting Married in Cyprus

If you're looking for a romantic idyll at which to get married abroad then why not consider Cyprus, known as the 'Island of Love' and birthplace of Aphrodite the Goddess of Love. Enjoying plentiful sunshine all year round, the island has plenty of churches, hotel resorts, yachts and traditional Cypriot Tavernas in which to exchange your vows. There are plenty of venues all with stunning views able to help host your reception and with so much to see and do, weddings abroad in Cyprus are a popular choice for even the most discerning couple.

Marriage Requirements

There is a requirement for couples to reside on the island for a minimum of 3 working days after which they can get married by Special Licence. Otherwise they need to spend 15 clear days after applying to get married, so need to reside for around 20 days in total. Application needs to be made in person the Marriage Office of the region you want to get married in. Documents needed include valid 10 year passports with at least 6 months remaining on them and full birth certificates. In addition you will need sworn affidavits that you are both free to marry, a Notice of Marriage, and a baptism certificate if getting married in church. Also if you are a divorcee or widower, you will need to produce relevant papers to that effect. The Licence costs €282. Catholic weddings are only legal if a civil ceremony has already taken place and will cost €600 which includes the priest fees. Anglican weddings cost €630 which includes the cost of a 'Form B' as well as the priest's services.
