In order to get married in Argentina one of the couple has to be Argentinian or be a permanent resident in Argentina itself. The law only recognises civil ceremonies as legally binding although you can hold a religious ceremony afterwards, if you wish. You must apply for your marriage papers at least 30 days before your wedding and you will both need valid passports and birth certificates as well as two witnesses. In addition medical examinations are required. The ceremony takes place at the Civil Registry and operates on a first come first served basis on your set date. It takes about 20 minutes.
